Why New-Zealand
It is said that every day in the world begins in New Zealand. The reason being that, New Zealand is located right at the edge of the world in the South western Pacific Ocean and is the first place to see the sun rise. New Zealand is around the size of Great Britain and Japan. Green hills to golden sand beaches then rain forest all within few hours’ drive. The climate in New Zealand is temperate with temperature between 10 to 15ºC in winters and 20 to 30ºC in summers.
New Zealand is increasingly becoming the first choice for education for international students. New Zealand Education system is based on the British education system. The University of Auckland features in the top 100 universities in the QS world university rankings and the University of Otago in the top 200.
Having said all that below are some of the points that attract students towards New Zealand as a study destination:
1. Safe and peaceful environment:
New Zealand has received No.1 ranking on GPI for two consecutive years. With just a little over 4 million people in New Zealand as compared to the 20 million population of Mumbai alone, New Zealand is one of the safest places on the planet with high quality living conditions. Their government is very stable and New Zealand has never seen wars. They do not have a high crime rate and is the first country to declare itself as a nuclear free zone
2. Very cost effective:
The best part about studying in New Zealand is that it is the most cost effective study destination as compared to most places like USA, UK, Australia or Canada. The tuition fees are much lower and so is the cost of living. It therefore gives a student the best of both worlds i.e. quality education that is at par with the world and at the same time saves on costs.
3. Employment prospects and Post study work options:
If a student successfully completes their education they are entitled to a “Job search visa” in New Zealand for the period of a year. If a student gets a job in their field of education in New Zealand they are entitled to a 2 years’ work visa. With a skill shortage across various sectors in the New Zealand labour market, fresh graduates are in high demand in New Zealand.
4. Study while you work
Students, who are pursuing a course that is 12 month or longer, are eligible to work part time while studying; i.e. 20 hours per week when the course is in session and fulltime during vacations.
5. Beautiful, green and an adventurous country
New Zealand has a reputation for adventure tourism and offers the thrill of white water rafting and skiing to abseiling, mountain biking and snowboarding, bungee jumping, skydiving and much more! What makes all this possible is the pristine outdoors of New Zealand i.e. with its volcanoes, high snow-covered mountains, spectacular lakes, and white sandy beaches, is a land of unparalleled beauty.
6. Assured Quality education
The New Zealand government has set a quality assurance system in place that ensures the government and students invest in quality education.
7. Research opportunities at local fees
New Zealand universities offer a wide variety of research opportunities to students. Doctoral programs are available to international students too and it is a fully research based course. PHD students pay local fees or domestic fees as opposed to international fees which is a benefit provided to them.
8. Supportive learning environment
Last but not the least, international students find that universities in New Zealand provide a very supportive learning environment to them. The “International Office” in tertiary institutions provides a high quality support service to help you adjust to your new environment and successfully complete your studies.
