Cost


The costs of studying in Australia depend on the institution and the level of study you choose. The list below gives you an indication of the range of course costs for different types of qualifications.
Tuition Fees

  • Vocational Education and Training (Certificates I to IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) – AUD 15,000 TO AUD 22,000
  • Undergraduate Bachelor Degree – AUD 18,000 to AUD 33,000
  • Postgraduate Master Degree - AUD 22,000 to AUD 37,000

Living Expenses       
                                       

The Government of Australia states that a student can comfortable make his living in approx. $18,610 AUD per year. Also, in order to obtain a Student Visa you must meet this financial requirement.

Job Opportunities


While studying in Australia, a student has the advantage of working part-time in order to gain work experience as well as manage their own living expenses. A student is permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when his/her course is in session, and unlimited hours during holidays. The recent changes in the government policies in Australia have made it possible for International students to gain Post Study Work visa in Australia for upto 4 years depending on their educational qualifications gained. This gives the students a fair chance to recover the money spent on education as well as gain international work experience.

From 1 July 2014, the national minimum wage in Australia increase by 3%. The new national minimum wage will now be AUD 640.90 per week or AUD 16.87 per hour

FAQ's


1. Can I work Part Time while studying?
Yes, you can work up to 40- hours per fortnightly part time and full time during your university vacations.

2. Is there a Post study work option or possibility of applying for PR?
Students you have completed their graduation/bachelors education in Australia are eligible to put forward an application for a two year post-study work visa.
Similarly you are eligible for 3 year post-study work visa after you have completed your Master’s by research and 4 years post study work permit  years after completing PhD course in Australia.

3. What are the general entry requirements for Universities?
You are required to score in English Language Test i.e. IELTS, A school/College completion certificate would be must. 4. When should I start the application process?
It is advisable to start an application process minimum of 6 months in advance, so that you are ahead of your schedule.

5. What are the possibilities of getting a scholarship? How do I apply for them?
There are various factors on which a university decides to who the scholarships should be granted. Your academic performance, your involvement in co-curricular activities, sports, etc. Contact KAASIER Counselor for more information about your eligibility.

6. What are the intakes in Australia?
There are two intakes for Admissions in Australian Institution – February & July, with some universities offering multiple intakes in September & November. A university takes 4-6 weeks generally to process an application so you should be ideally apply 7-8 months prior to the intake so that you have ample amount of time for post admissions process.

Australia sits above the likes of Germany, the Netherlands and Japan, Australia has 43 Universities, 40 public (government funded) Two International Universities and One private universities, for applicants to select from.

Higher Education Sector visa (subclass 573)
This visa is designed for international students applying to study in Australia at a participating education provider. You may be eligible for streamlined visa processing if your main course of study is a advanced diploma, Bachelor degree or a Masters by coursework

Requirements: - You might be able to get this visa if you are enrolled as a student in a registered course for the award of:
-> a bachelor or associate degree
-> a graduate certificate or graduate diploma
-> a masters degree by coursework
-> a higher education diploma or advanced diploma.

Visa Duration:-
With the Higher Education Sector Student Visa (Subclass 573), you can study and live in Australia for as long as you are enrolled in a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). You must also maintain satisfactory attendance in your course as required by your education provider and make satisfactory course progress for each study period.
Your education provider will advise the department if your attendance or course progress is not satisfactory. The definition of 'satisfactory' is determined by your education provider.
Eligible dependant family members can also accompany you to Australia, and your partner can study in Australia for up to three months.
Note: Some Higher Education Sector Student Visas are issued with a 'no further stay' condition. This condition means that you cannot apply to stay in Australia beyond the date specified on your visa, except in extremely limited circumstance

Conditions of Work:-
Provided you have commenced your course of study in Australia, you can work up to
-> 20 hours per week while your course is in session; AND
-> Unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.
Your family members can work up to 20 hours per week provided you have commenced your course of study in Australia.

Financial Requirements:-
You must maintain enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your partner and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia. You must also maintain health insurance for you and your family members while in Australia. Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance.

Post-Study Work Stream Visa:-
This visa allows you and your family to live, work, travel and study in Australia for between two and four years if you have graduated from an Australian education institution within the past six months. If you have a bachelor degree you can stay for two years. If you have a master's degree you can stay for two or three years. And if you have a doctorate you can stay for four years. 
However, if your qualification is below that of a bachelor degree (eg: certificate III, diploma or graduate diploma) you do not qualify for this visa. 
Also, you are not eligible for this visa if you applied for your first ever student visa before November 5, 2011

Vocational Education and Training Sector visa (subclass 572)

This visa is designed for international students applying to study in Australia at a participating education provider. You may be eligible for streamlined visa processing if your main course of study is an Advanced Diploma level course.

Requirements:- You might be able to get this visa if you are enrolled as a student in a registered vocational education and training course enrolled as a student in the following registered courses
-> A Certificate I, II, III and IV (except ELICOS)
-> A VET diploma
-> A VET advanced diploma
-> A vocational graduate certificate or a vocational graduate diploma.

Before you apply for this visa, you must have been accepted to study full-time at an educational institution in Australia.

Visa Duration:-

STUDENT DEPENDENT VISA’s (Subclass 573 & 572)

Who can Apply for Student dependent Visas
Generally, you can apply for dependent visa:
-> if you are partner / member of family unit of a holder of some type of temporary visa in Australia (for example, student visa),
-> If your partner is an Australian student visa holder
Who are 'members of family unit' of a student? Eligible to apply for this visa to join a holder of student visa is:
-> a spouse (including de facto spouse) of the student visa holder, or
-> a dependent child (unmarried, and younger than 18 years) of the student visa holder.
If you are not married with your partner, but you would like to apply for spouse dependent visa, you have to submit evidence that you have lived together for a period of at least 12 months prior to lodging visa application.
Married couples can apply after submission of marriage certificate.
What does the visa let me do? If are granted visa as a partner (spouse) of a student visa holder, you are allowed to study in Australia up to 3 months, to work during your stay in Australia (up to 20 hours/week).
What are the benefits of having a dependent visa? 
If you get a dependent visa, you will get a limited permission to work (20 hours/week), and you do not need to enrol in any course / school in Australia. Your partner, a student visa holder, will be allowed to work as well, see conditions of student visa
How to apply for this type of visa? 
You can be nominated by your partner in his/her application for student visa, or he/she can nominate you while already studying in Australia.

Visitor/Tourist visas


This visa is for the temporary entry of people for tourism or business visitor purposes. There are two streams which can be applied for outside Australia
Tourist Visa
This visa allows people to visit Australia for a holiday or recreation, or to visit family and/or friends for a stay up to three or six or twelve months. This visa may also be used for other short-term non-work purposes.
